Amazon figures that amusing little mind bender could be turned into a CAPTCHA killer. In a patent that was awarded last week, Amazon describes using these seemingly silly little puzzles as a way to distinguish between actual people and bots. A standard CAPTCHA test assumes that a human will be able to decipher the code and that a bot will struggle to do it. Amazon’s plan turns things upside down. It anticipates human failure. Here, a score that is too good will look like the work of a bot.
